History

Laiko Cosmos Trading Ltd. is the outcome of the merger between two of the oldest and most well respected distribution companies of FMCG products both local and imported in Cyprus. Most of their products were holding leading positions.

The merger of Cosmos Trading and Omilos Laikou took place in 2012. The aspiration of the two companies was to establish themselves as the biggest and most efficient Sales and Distribution Company in Cyprus in food, beverages, wines and spirits. Both companies have a rich history which dates almost a century back.

Omilos Laikou was established in 2002 with the merger of People’s Coffee Grinding Company and LOEL, as well as other subsidiaries. These companies, found in the 1940s, were responsible for the production and distribution of some of the most iconic and distinguishable products in Cyprus like Kafes tou Laikou (traditional Cyprus coffee) and Zivana LOEL (a local white spirit), as well as award winning locally produced and imported wines, spirits, snacks, chocolates, and confectionaries. These products are the legacy of the hard work and perseverance throughout the years.

Cosmos Trading’s rich history begins in the 1950s, when its owners dominated the tobacco market in Cyprus, under the license of Rothmans, until 1990. Their interest and activity into the spirits market in the late 1980s and their subsequent merge with a food distributor, formed Cosmos Trading. Many of the brands that Laiko Cosmos Trading Ltd. represents are from that period. After their rapid expansion in 2012, the company split its tobacco division into a separate entity, Cosmos Tobacco Trading, while the remaining company maintained its stronghold in the imported food and beverage market.

Today, Laiko Cosmos Trading Ltd. stands as one of the largest distributors on the island, covering a wide number of customers in all channels of distribution.
